"The money is in the list!" If you've had any exposure whatsoever to internet marketing, then you've probably heard or read this phrase many, many times. A subscriber list is absolutely essential for building wealth from home with an internet marketing campaign. Over the years, there have been literally thousands of different approaches used to quickly build subscriber lists.

Most of these approaches have involved giving away something for free in exchange for a visitor's email address. Once the email address is obtained, it can be used to sell any number of products or services such as ebooks. These free give-aways have included things such as copies of interview transcripts, software, discounts or coupons, etc. I have found that the most effective give-away product for attracting subscribers and converting them into buyers is the mini-course.

You may have had some exposure to the mini-course concept, but I'll briefly explain for those who have not. A mini-course is a series of short informational or instructional lessons designed to provide information to the subscriber in a defined niche. Mini-courses can be written, audio, or video.

I've seen good mini-courses and I've seen truly awful mini-courses. There are a few simple strategies that can be used to optimize the mini-course approach:

1. Use teases when describing the mini-course. When pitching your mini-course on your website or squeeze page, use several bullets describing both the information that they will receive and how it will benefit them. However, don't give away the farm. Use teases to reel in the potential subscribers.

2. Use the right number of course topics. You definitely want to provide enough information so that the subscriber feels that he or she was not cheated. However, you don't want to provide too much information as it can take a lot of time and effort to develop the lessons. As a rule of thumb, use 8 to 10 lessons and add more if you feel like being extra generous.

3. Use good content. The content that you include in the mini-course lesson is what will build the trust with the subscriber that will influence them to buy the product or service that you are promoting. Make sure that the content is original, informative, and well prepared. If it is written, the use good grammar and spelling. If the lessons are audio or video, make sure it is of good quality.

4. Use a conversational tone. Whether you are writing your mini-course lessons or speaking them on audio or video, be sure to use an informal conversational tone. Instead of approaching it as if you are a teacher in a classroom, approach it as if you are having a one-on-one conversation. This increases the trust factor that is so important for converting the subscriber into a buyer.

5. Don't oversell. The whole purpose of giving away a mini-course is to eventually use the email address to promote a product or service. However, if you try to sell too much too soon, then the subscriber can become annoyed and unsubscribe from the list. I recommend that for every 10 lessons that you provide that you only send a maximum of three sales pitches.

Use the mini-course approach and the suggestions above and watch your subscriber lists grow and your conversions rates increase. You'll be making more money from home than you ever have before.
